Goal
When it comes to the indie-film universe, Sundance stands as the unrivaled titan. However, when the world threw an unexpected curveball, and the annual Park Slope festival couldn’t be held in person, Sundance couldn’t just hit pause. They needed to adapt and reach their devoted audience right where they were – online. The turned to SFG to produce the Beyond Film content to enhance the digital experience and ensure audiences were not missing out on the intimate, exclusive content they would have received in-person. This also included interviews with the filmmakers and daily recaps of the incredible stories that were streamed every day.
Solution
SFG was thrilled to partner with AgenC to co-produce Beyond Film content for the first ever virtual Sundance Film Festival. Sundance and SFG worked closely together to ensure the connection that artists and the audiences crave at the festival stayed vibrant in all of the virtual offerings. We were hired as the video producers for this content and our teams worked to produce, remotely shoot, and edit over 20 Branded Partner content videos in 2 months and shot in-person in an NYC studio.
Results
Attendees from a staggering 120 countries around the globe came together, transcending geographical boundaries to celebrate the art of independent cinema. An estimated 500,000 viewers were captivated by the Beyond Film content, proving that even in a digital landscape, Sundance’s magnetic pull remains unshaken. This pioneering move not only elevated Sundance’s presence but also demonstrated the power of innovation and adaptation in the face of adversity. It was a testament to the enduring allure of indie film, the dedication of passionate filmmakers, and the unwavering support of global cinephiles. Sundance, with SFG by its side, had successfully reimagined the film festival experience for a new era, ensuring that the spirit of independent storytelling continued to thrive, regardless of the challenges at hand.
